He is also a member of the ‘Thumbay Group Board’, a five-member board which implements the Group’s strategic plans worldwide. Akram Moideen Thumbay was born on the 1st of January 1987 to Thumbay Moideen, a third generation business entrepreneur and his wife Zohra, an accomplished artist from Mangalore, India.
Akram did his schooling at the Lawrence School, Lovedale – Ooty, and the International School of Choueifat, Sharjah – UAE. He completed his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the American University of Sharjah specializing in Management and Finance in 2010. He has also done BA Business & Management (Honours) from the University of Northampton and M.Sc. Entrepreneurship from the University of Surrey.
Akram’s first stint with Thumbay Group was in January 2001, when he spent six years (up to December 2006) as a Trainee, familiarizing himself with the day-to-day operations of the organization by involving in recommending innovative ideas, participating in brainstorming sessions and assisting in the daily tasks of the company.
He rejoined Thumbay Group as Director during May 2009 – December 2012, where he performed day-to-day office administration and accounting, growth/budgeting/strategic planning, consultant/subcontractor coordination and handled the overall supervision of projects, costing, inventories, HR, stores and materials, analysis and personnel. He was also in charge of 8 Engineers and 15 site supervisors.
Akram was later elevated as the Director Operations of the Construction & Renovation Division of Thumbay Group, and he formally took charge on 10th February 2016. He now directs the operations of Thumbay Builders, the high-end general construction company operated by the Construction & Renovation Division of Thumbay Group, and is the Director of Thumbay Technologies, a leading IT solutions company owned by Thumbay Group. He has also done shorts stints as trainee/intern, with some of the prominent international names in the automobile, manufacturing and construction sectors.
